MAY - Courtesy
"Courtesy is as much a mark of a gentleman
"Without good manners, human society becomes
intolerable and impossible."
-George Bernard Shaw, 1800s
Our character education theme for the month of May is COURTESY. It is important that children learn to practice polite behavior toward others. It is equally important for all people to be thoughtful, civil, and considerate, which are all qualities of being courteous. We need to model courteous behavior for our children so they will learn from example. In our class we are learning that when people treat others in a polite and thoughtful manner, they will be more likely to treat us in the same way. We will be encouraging courteous behavior throughout the month (and always) through various activities and discussions. Please encourage courtesy at home as well. Please help your children understand courtesy by modeling, having discussions, and stressing the importance of appropriate ethical conduct (such as courtesy). Remind your children how important it is to always be polite, thoughtful, civil, and considerate. The possibilities are endless!
