DECEMBER - Compassion
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with
us. What we have done for others and the world
Our character education theme for the month of December is COMPASSION. It is important that children to understand the needs and feelings of others. They can show compassion by caring about others in need and by having a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another's suffering and misfortune. We will be encouraging compassion throughout the month (and always) through various activities and discussions. Remind your children how important it is to always think about how another person is feeling. Parents can help their children learn compassion in so many ways during the holiday season. Thanksgiving was a great time to help at the Salvation Army or Soup Kitchens to serve meals to the less fortunate. The holidays are also a great time to donate canned foods and toys, as well as volunteer time to needy causes. The possibilities are endless! It is important that we model compassion for our children as well aso they will learn form example. Please help your children understand compassion by modeling, having discussions, and stressing the importance of all appropriate ethical conduct (such as compassion).
